Apple Fitness Executive Faces Allegations of Creating Toxic Workplace Environment
Jay Blahnik, Apple’s vice president of fitness technologies, is under scrutiny amid allegations of fostering a hostile work environment. Leading a team of approximately 100 employees, Blahnik has been with Apple since 2013, initially joining to support the launch of the Apple Watch and Apple Fitness+. Prior to Apple, he spent years consulting for Nike, shaping his reputation in the fitness tech industry.
Recent reports by The New York Times reveal that Blahnik’s management style has been described as verbally abusive, manipulative, and inappropriate by current and former employees. These claims have led to a lawsuit filed by a former staff member against both Blahnik and Apple. Additionally, Apple previously settled a separate sexual harassment complaint involving him.
Sources close to the company indicate that around 10% of Blahnik’s reports have taken extended medical or mental health leave since 2022, raising concerns about workplace morale and wellbeing. Apple conducted an internal investigation but publicly stated it found no evidence of misconduct, a claim met with skepticism by some employees who feel the company is more focused on protecting its executive than addressing staff concerns.
Apple spokesperson Lance Lin responded to the reports, stating, “We strongly disagree with the premise of this story, and there are many inaccurate claims and mischaracterizations.” He declined to comment on specific allegations, citing privacy considerations, and emphasized that the company would continue to share facts through legal channels.
