Argyll and Bute councillor switches to Reform UK from Scottish Tories

A councillor who represents Oban and the Scottish islands has defected to Reform UK.

Argyll and Bute representative Amanda Hampsey has joined the party from the Scottish Conservatives, becoming Reform UK Scotland’s 23rd local government member.

Her decision follows her son, Cllr Daniel Hampsey’s, defection earlier in the year.

In a statement released on Saturday, the party said her move “reflects growing support for Reform UK Scotland among elected representatives.”

Cllr Hampsey said: “In Scotland, and particularly in Argyll and Bute, many people feel their voices are no longer being heard. Decisions affecting our communities are too often made by those far removed from the realities of rural and island life, leaving local people feeling overlooked and undervalued.

“That growing frustration is why more people are turning to Reform UK, out of a desire for politics that truly puts communities first.”
