Google Translate Breaks Free from Pixel Buds, Supports All Earbuds on Android

Google is redefining its approach to live translation by making it accessible to all Android users, regardless of the earbuds they own. Traditionally, features like real-time translation were limited to specific hardware, but now, Google Translate’s latest update enables seamless audio translation with any connected earbuds.

Built on the advanced Gemini architecture, this feature offers more accurate and natural translations across dozens of languages. Previously, initiating live audio translation required Pixel Buds, but Google has removed this restriction, expanding compatibility to all earbuds on Android devices.

A beta test of this broader headphone support has launched today in the US, Mexico, and India. The system aims to preserve the speaker’s tone and rhythm, providing a more authentic conversational experience. While not yet matching the full AI-powered voice synthesis found on recent Pixel phones, this upgrade significantly enhances accessibility for travelers, students, and international professionals.

Experts note that such innovations are crucial as real-time translation becomes a staple in global communication. The upcoming expansion to iOS devices will further increase its reach, offering a practical solution for diverse users worldwide.
