Honest Review: ASUS TUF 27-inch 160Hz Gaming Monitor
I recently bought the ASUS TUF Gaming 27-inch 160Hz display after reading some mixed reviews, and honestly, I’m a bit confused. The specs sounded great for my gaming setup—especially the high refresh rate and good color accuracy. But after setting it up, I ran into a few issues that I didn’t expect. The main thing is, I noticed some flickering during fast-paced games, which really takes away from the experience. I also read online that some users experience backlight bleed, and I’ve spotted a tiny bit of that on the edges of my screen.
On the other hand, the build quality feels solid, and the image quality is pretty sharp for a budget-friendly monitor. I mostly use it for gaming and occasional work, but I want to make sure I’m not missing something important. Should I keep this monitor, or is there something better in this price range? Would love to hear honest opinions or tips from anyone who’s used it extensively.

I had backlight bleed on mine too, but I fixed it by adjusting the monitor tilt. It’s not perfect, but it’s manageable. The image quality is decent for the price.

I think flickering can sometimes be a driver issue. Have you updated your graphics drivers and checked the monitor’s firmware? That might help.

I chose this monitor mainly for the high refresh rate, but I was disappointed by the color accuracy out of the box. Calibration helped, but it’s something to keep in mind.

If you’re concerned about flickering and backlight bleed, maybe consider a monitor with higher build quality. But if you mostly game and don’t mind some quirks, it’s a decent choice.
I’ve had mine for a couple of months, and overall, I’m pretty happy. The flickering only happens rarely, maybe due to certain settings. Make sure you enable FreeSync or G-Sync to smooth out the gameplay.
Mike, do you think the flickering is related to the refresh rate setting? I’ve noticed some flicker at 160Hz but not at 144Hz.
Sarah, I think the flickering might be related to the monitor’s overdrive settings. Try adjusting those in the on-screen menu to reduce ghosting.
