Now his daughter Sunnah has said that he “left a mark on every life he touched, making an impact whether through his kindness, wisdom or his mischievousness”.

“He is an unforgettable father and a maverick of his generation. First of his family to pursue higher education, he graduated with a 2.1 in mechanical engineering and subsequently emboldened two generations into creating independent, successful and promising lives.

“All throughout life, he continued learning, later becoming an expert and professional builder, plumber, fixer of anything he put his mind to, property investor, car importer and dealer – you name it, he’s probably done it.

“Aside from his many achievements, dad was bold, daring and adventurous beyond all means, he loved the outdoors no matter the weather, especially the snow, he loved exploring the world, climbing and anything dangerous really.

“But most of all, he loved to share these experiences with others; he would show you there’s nothing to fear and open your mind up to new possibilities and challenges.

“In his presence, the impossible doesn’t exist, and there’s no saying ‘I can’t’ because he will shout back at you with a stern but caring voice saying ‘Yes, You Can’ and funnily enough, he was right every time.”

“Speaking for all who knew and loved Alex, he left a mark on every life he touched, making an impact whether through his kindness, wisdom or his mischievousness.

“In honour of my dad’s memory, I encourage you all to live life as boldly as he did, trying to experience and achieve as much as possible, with a smile on your face and determined to the end.”

He was born in Sylhet, Bangladesh and moved to Birmingham when he was just four years old.

His funeral prayers were held at Jami Masjid Mosque in Small Heath on February 28. His burial was at the Sutton Coldfield Cemetery.

He is survived by his children, Yaaseen, Armaan and Sunnah.

His best friend said, “He was a friend who told it to you straight. He didn’t mince his words and the reason you took it was because you knew without any question it was from a place of love. I will miss him dearly.”

Another friend added: “He was someone who was a real character. There was never a dull moment when he was around.

“He was intelligent, funny and loyal. He always wanted to help others and was a real genuine, down to earth man. He will really be missed.”
