Is the ASUS TUF 27-inch QHD Gaming Monitor Worth It?
I recently decided to upgrade my gaming setup and after a lot of research, I zeroed in on the ASUS TUF Gaming 27-inch QHD display. I mainly play FPS and open-world games, and I was looking for a monitor that offers good image quality, low input lag, and a smooth gaming experience.
So, I bought it last week, and while the picture clarity is impressive and the build feels solid, I’ve run into a couple of issues. The color calibration seems off out of the box — especially blacks look a bit washed out, and I had to tweak the settings quite a bit to get it to my liking. Also, I noticed some slight flickering during fast-paced scenes, which is a bit distracting.
Has anyone else used this monitor for gaming? Does it perform well in terms of responsiveness and color accuracy? Should I consider returning it or is it just a matter of fine-tuning the settings? Would love to hear real-world experiences before making a final decision.

I own the same model. For me, the colors were pretty good after adjusting the presets. Also, I noticed that enabling the 'Game Mode' helped with response time.

Are you guys using DisplayHDR or any special settings? I’ve heard that can affect color accuracy a lot.

Emily, I tried HDR but didn’t notice much difference for gaming. I mostly keep it off for better performance.

I had similar issues with blacks being washed out. I found that turning off some of the post-processing features in the menu improved contrast.

Is the input lag really low? I mainly play fast shooters and responsiveness is key for me.

James, from what I experienced, input lag is minimal, definitely suitable for competitive gaming.

I read some reviews mentioning backlight bleed. Did anyone experience that?

Chris, I did notice a bit of backlight bleed at the corners, but it’s not very noticeable during gameplay.

How does this monitor compare to similar 27-inch QHD models from other brands?
.png)
Tom, I think ASUS TUF offers good value, especially with its build quality, but some competitors like Dell or LG might have slightly better color accuracy out of the box.

Would you recommend this for someone who also wants to use it for photo editing? I care a lot about color precision.

Ben, probably not the best choice for professional photo editing. It’s more gaming-oriented, so calibration might not be perfect for precise work.

Did anyone try overclocking the refresh rate? Is there room for improvement?
.png)
Matt, I overclocked it to 165Hz without issues, and it made a noticeable difference in gameplay smoothness.

Are there any issues with screen tearing or adaptive sync features?
.png)
Kevin, I use FreeSync with this monitor, and it works great—no tearing during my gameplay.

Would you say this monitor is a good buy for under $400? Or are there better options in that price range?
.png)
Eric, for gaming, it’s solid. But if you want better color accuracy, maybe look into some IPS panels. This one is more VA, which affects contrast.

Thanks for all the insights! I’m on the fence about whether to get this or wait for a sale.
I have this monitor and honestly, the flickering was noticeable at first, but a firmware update fixed it for me. Make sure you're running the latest driver.
Mike, thanks for the tip! Do you think the color calibration issues are normal out of the box, or should I consider an adjustment?
