Is the MSI Codex Z2’s AMD R7-8700F CPU worth it?

I recently bought the MSI Codex Z2, mainly for gaming and some light content creation. The specs looked good on paper, especially with the AMD R7-8700F processor. However, after using it for a few weeks, I’ve run into some performance issues that I didn’t expect. Sometimes, it lags during intense gaming sessions, and multitasking feels sluggish. I chose this model over other options because of its price and specs, but now I’m wondering if I should have gone with a different build.

Has anyone here used the MSI Codex Z2 with the AMD R7-8700F? How does it perform in real-world use? Are there common bottlenecks or issues I should be aware of? I’d love some insights before I consider upgrading or returning it. Is this CPU really as good as advertised for gaming and multitasking?

I've got the same setup, and honestly, it performs pretty well for gaming. Are you running the latest driver updates?

John, I think driver updates can make a difference, but the R7-8700F isn't as strong in multitasking as some higher-end CPUs. Are you noticing lag in specific games or apps?

I've had similar issues. Sometimes, the CPU usage spikes unexpectedly. Maybe thermal throttling? Have you checked your temps?

Emily

Mike, good point. Overheating can cause lag. Do you have good airflow in your case?

The R7-8700F is a solid CPU for gaming, but it’s not a powerhouse for heavy multitasking. If you're doing a lot of rendering or streaming, it might struggle.

David, I agree. I’ve used similar CPUs, and for multitasking, I’d recommend something with hyper-threading support or more cores.

Did you try adjusting the BIOS settings or overclocking? Sometimes a little tweak can improve performance.

Tom, MSI pre-builds usually lock overclocking options. But it’s worth checking if your BIOS allows performance mode tweaks.

In my experience, the R7-8700F is great for gaming but not so much for tasks that need more cores. What workload are you running exactly?

I run similar setups, and I noticed that background processes can also cause lag. Do you have many apps running in the background?

Anna, good call. Managing startup programs and background tasks can free up resources.

Have you considered upgrading your RAM or SSD? Sometimes bottlenecks aren’t just CPU related.

George

Jessica, true. Faster storage and more RAM can help with overall responsiveness.

Could it be a software issue? Running some diagnostics or benchmark tests might help identify the bottleneck.

Samantha, I ran some benchmarks on my Codex Z2, and it performed well in gaming but lagged in multitasking. Maybe a RAM upgrade would help?

For what it’s worth, I love my MSI Codex Z2, but I only use it for gaming. Multitasking isn’t its strong suit.

Olivia, that makes sense. If multitasking is a priority, maybe look into a CPU with more cores or hyper-threading.

Overall, it seems like the CPU is decent but not perfect for heavy multitasking. Do you think a different build would suit your needs better?
