That one for telephone calls from abroad to Germany
Because not all countries use the 00 as the traffic access number (VAZ), which leads to the international area. This is reported by the telecommunications portal “Teltarif.de”. Canada and the USA, for example, use the VAZ 011 – accordingly, travelers would have to dial 01149 for a call to Germany. Australia even uses a four-digit VAZ with 0011, so the area code here would be 001149.
Anyone traveling abroad and planning calls home should therefore find out beforehand which VAZ they need to dial.
It is easier for calls over the mobile network. Instead of the VAZ, users type a “+” in front of the country code (Germany = “+49”). According to “Teltarif.de”, the sign is internationally valid.
Important to note: If you dial a number with a country code, you must omit the “0” in front of the respective area code.
