Президент Дональд Трамп выступил с монологом о Верховном суде, обвинив судей, которых он назначил, в том, что они “делают все возможное”, чтобы противостоять ему “с плохими и неправильными решениями и намерениями”.
In a Sunday, March 15, post on Truth Social, the president discussed the Supreme Court’s February ruling that foiled his tariff plan in a 6-3 vote. Two of his conservative Supreme Court appointees, Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch, ruled against him.
“The decision that mattered most to me was TARIFFS! The Court knew where I stood, how badly I wanted this Victory for our Country, and instead decided to, potentially, give away Trillions of Dollars to Countries and Companies who have been taking advantage of the United States for decades,” Trump, 79, wrote.
“Our Supreme Court has made these Countries very happy but, as the Court pointed out, I have the absolute right to charge TARIFFS in another form, and have already started to do so,” the president continued.
In the post, Trump went on to say, “The Democrats on the Court always ‘stick together,’ no matter how strong a case is put before them — There is rarely even a minor ‘waver.’ But Republicans do not do this.”
“They openly disrespect the Presidents who nominate them to the highest position in the Land, a Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and go out of their way, with bad and wrongful rulings and intentions, to prove how ‘honest,’ ‘independent,’ and ‘legitimate’ they are,” he wrote.
He then thanked conservative Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Brett Kavanaugh — the last of whom was also appointed by Trump — for ruling in his favor.
The social media rant comes after the Feb. 20 ruling where the Supreme Court voted to strike down his sweeping emergency tariffs on imports.
The majority ruling affirmed that imposing taxes and tariffs is a power that belongs to Congress in accordance with the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977.

After the ruling, Trump hosted a breakfast with governors from around the country where he dismissed members of the White House press corps from the room shortly after entering.
However, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported that, inside the room, the president called the Supreme Court ruling a “disgrace” and told the gathered governors that “he has a backup plan.”

At the time of the ruling, Trump promised he had plans to keep the tariffs in place, just not by using IEEPA.
“Almost all countries and corporations want to keep the deal that they already made, knowing that the legal power that I have as president could be far worse for them,” he said. “Congressional action will not be necessary… We finally have a president who puts America first.”
