Liam Knight has been granted an immediate release from his contract with Hull FC in England to return to Australia, where he’ll be closer to fiancee Danika Mason and on the hunt for a new NRL club. The front-rower played 22 games for Hull in 2025, and only recently re-committed to the English side.

But the club announced on Sunday that Knight had been granted an immediate release on compassionate grounds, and the 31-year-old will return to Australia. “The club has mutually agreed to release the player from the remainder of his contract to return to Australia on compassionate grounds,” Hull FC said in a statement.

“Knight joined the club during the 2025 campaign, and made 22 appearances for the Black & Whites. The club would like to thank Liam for his contributions to the club over the past 12 months, and wish him the best of luck for his future endeavours in the sport.”

Knight is now on the hunt for a new club in the NRL. The prop has 83 games of experience in the NRL, the majority of which (66) came for South Sydney between 2019 and 2023.

He started his career with one game for Manly in 2016, before nine games for Canberra across 2017 and 2018. After a four-year stint at Souths he played seven games for the Bulldogs between 2023 and 2024. He’d be a handy pick-up for an NRL club seeking some depth and experience in the forward pack.
