University community ‘coming together’ in song for annual fundraising concert

A university community is coming together in song.

Students and staff from the University of Brighton will perform at their annual fundraising concert in support of the Sussex Cancer Fund, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by cancer across Sussex.

The free concert, organised by the university’s School of Applied Sciences, will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at St Andrew’s Church in Moulsecoomb, Brighton.

The event will feature a mix of classical and contemporary music performed by students, staff and guest musicians.

Dr Annamaria Gal, senior lecturer, cancer researcher and founder of the SAS Singers chamber choir, said: “This concert is a wonderful opportunity for students and staff from across the University to come together through music while supporting an important cause.

“Cancer touches so many families and communities, and we hope the evening not only raises vital funds for the Sussex Cancer Fund but also creates a moment of connection and reflection for everyone involved.”

Now in its fourth year, the concert has become an annual tradition thanks to Dr Gal, who launched the choir and the first concert in 2019.
