Unleashing the Power of the ASUS ROG Strix G16 i9-14900HX
I recently bought the ASUS ROG Strix G16 with the i9-14900HX, and I was super excited about its potential. After some initial setup, I noticed that the performance seems a bit underwhelming for such a high-end CPU—games lagging slightly, and some heavy tasks taking longer than expected. I’ve read about how powerful this combination should be, but somehow, I’m not seeing the full potential.
Has anyone else experienced this? Did you do anything special to optimize performance? Or is there a known issue I should be aware of? Honestly, I was expecting more out of this machine right out of the box. Should I consider tweaking the settings or updating some drivers? Would love to hear your thoughts on unleashing its true power.

I think the default power profiles might limit performance. Try setting it to high performance in Windows settings.

I had similar issues, but after disabling background apps and cleaning up startup programs, performance improved a lot.

Are you using the latest ROG gaming center software? Sometimes, optimizing profiles there can make a difference.

David, I tried that, but still not as snappy as I expected. Do you think thermal throttling could be an issue?

Thermal throttling can definitely limit CPU performance. Check your temps during heavy tasks.

I've heard some units come with aggressive power limits. Maybe contact ASUS support if you suspect that.
Interesting:

What games or tasks are you testing it with? Sometimes specific workloads don't utilize the full CPU power.

For me, undervolting helped improve performance and reduce heat. Have you tried that?

James, I’ve read about undervolting, but is it safe for the CPU? I’m worried about damaging the processor.

Generally safe if done carefully. Use reliable software and start with small adjustments.

I think the key is to check your system’s power plans and thermal settings first before diving into undervolting.

What about the SSD and RAM? Are they performing as expected? Sometimes storage bottlenecks can slow down overall performance.

Kevin, Good point. Upgrading RAM or ensuring the SSD isn't nearly full can really help with speed issues.
Make sure your BIOS and GPU drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can bottleneck performance.
Mike, Good point. I updated mine and saw a noticeable boost. Did you overclock your CPU or GPU? That might help too.
